Global Pollution popup
Pollution is a special late-game mechanic of Humankind. Beginning from the Industrial Era, certain Districts and Infrastructures will produce Pollution on a per turn basis. Pollution will accumulate inside Territories and gradually impact its Districts and the Stability of the contolling City. Each Empire contributes to Global Pollution based on their Pollution production per turn in their Territories. Global Pollution impacts the whole map and reduces Food production and Stability in Cities.
Sources of Pollution[]
The only way to produce Pollution is through District construction. Each District that pollutes, contributes to the Territory's Local Pollution. Makers Quarters andFarmers Quarters don't produce Pollution on their own, but certain Infrastructures may provide them with polluting properties on top of extra bonuses. Emblematic Districts with the "count as" attribute will get the Pollution effects from Infrastructures based on their District type tag.
Districts[]
- +5Pollution per Train Station
- +5Pollution per Aerodrome
- +15Pollution per Airport
- +15Pollution per Missile Silo
Infrastructures[]
| District | Pollution | Infrastructure | Era |
|---|---|---|---|
| On Makers Quarter | +2 | Coal Plant | Industrial Era |
| +1 | Sawmill | Industrial Era | |
| +1 | Factory | Industrial Era | |
| +1 | Anti-Air Surveillance | Contemporary Era | |
| +2 | Financial District | Contemporary Era | |
| +2 | Quarrying Machinery | Contemporary Era | |
| +2 | SAM | Contemporary Era | |
| +2 | Automated Factory | Contemporary Era | |
| +2 | Tech Park | Contemporary Era | |
| +2 | Command Compound | Contemporary Era | |
| On Farmers Quarter | +1 | Industrial Silos | Industrial Era |
| +2 | Factory Farming | Contemporary Era |
Pollution Level[]
Pollution will gradually accumulate every turn.
When the Global Pollution reaches the highest level (over 100k accumulated Global Pollution), it will trigger the Rending the world unfit for human life End Condition, forcing the game to end after the next turn (Standard Speed).
| The threshold numbers are not tested on all game speed so it may vary! |
| Pollution Level | Effects | Thresholds |
|---|---|---|
| Very Low Pollution |
|
0-45k accumulated Global Pollution |
| Low Pollution | 45k-72k accumulated Global Pollution | |
| High Pollution | 72k-100k accumulated Global Pollution |
| Pollution Level | Effects | Thresholds |
|---|---|---|
| Very Low Pollution |
|
1-19Pollution per turn |
| Low Pollution | 20-49Pollution per turn | |
| High Pollution | 50+Pollution per turn |
Mitigating Pollution[]
Currently the only ways of reducing Global Pollution are:
Building Nature Reserves -3Pollution
Planting Forest which will provide a -10Pollution effect on the current per turn Pollution value for 2turn. After 2turn, the per turn Pollution increase will rise back to the pre-Forest level.
It's also possible to decrease amount of Pollution produced by a city. Fusion Reactor technology provides -50%Pollution, meaning more Pollution must be produced by territory to reach dangerous Pollution levels. Certain Infrastructures decrease amount of Pollution produced, summing additively to -90%Pollution produced on Makers Quarters.
Pollution produced on Farmers Quarters is reduced -20% by the Sewage Treatment Plant. (Social Housing Technology)
