Population is one of the resources in Humankind. Population is required to build Units and work Specialist Slots that generate additional FIMS based on which Specialist Slot they are slotted in. In addition to these yields, each Population produce +1-2Influence on the City or Outpost they live in, based on the Citys or Outposts Stability.

Population growth[]

Population is increased by population growth. When a City or Outpost produces more Food than is needed to feed its Population, it is considered to be in a growth state. While in a growth state, the surplus Food, in turn, feeds Population growth. Surplus Food is calculated after the City’s current Population is fed. A bigger surplus means fewer turns pass before the City’s Population increases by 1. A negative deficit means the City or Outpost will begin losing Population after a number of turns defined by the size of the Food shortfall.

Population Limit[]

Both City and Outpost have a Population limit. The City's limit is based on the total Specialist Slots, while the Outpost limit is always 4. If a City or Outpost exceeds its Population limit - that is, there are Population that don't have a Specialist Slot - it will receive a penalty of -30 per over the limit.
