"Seowon" (서원) means "(Confucianism) Academy" in Korean.
The concept behind the Seowon is the numerous Seowons or private Neo-Confucianism educational institutions that flourished in Joseon dynasty.
The in-game appearance of the Seowon is presumably based on the typical architecture style of actual Seowons - which often have classroom at the front and the temple of past scholars in the back - such as the Dosan Seowon.
