"Tera" (てら, 寺) means "Buddhist Temples" in Japanese.
The concept of the Tera is based on the importance of Buddhist Temples in the pre-modern Japanese society.
The in-game appearance of Tera is based on Zōjō-ji in Tokyo, a Buddhist temple built in the Edo Era that houses the family burial ground of the Tokugawa clan.
